Engine 251 & crew respond to assist Fire District 129. April 17, 2009|
On the morning of Friday April 17, 2009 members of the Shavertown Fire Department and multiple mutual aid units were dispatched at the request of Exeter Township fire command and DCNR Bureau Forest Fire Protection to assist Harding Fire in Exeter Township, Luzerne County on a large wildfire. Shavertown Fire Crews working hand in hand with multiple wildland firefighting aircraft, battled a large rapidly spreading 40 acre wildfire which was in very difficult and steep terrain. The crews of the Shavertown Fire Department battled the raging wildfire well into the evening, before being relieved by additional crews from DCNR Bureau Forest Fire Protection. The fire continued to burn well into Saturday afternoon before being placed under control. This was a very busy weekend for firefighters battleing wildfires.
