Shavertown Fire Department. History
The Shavertown Volunteer Fire Department was established in May of 1925 as the Shavertown Chemical Company #1. We are the third oldest department in the Back Mountain. Today, 81 years later, we protect 950 homes and businesses in the northern section of Kingston Township. We provide this 100% professional volunteer service FREE to you, the resident. Our money to run the department comes from donations and fundraisers from people like you, as we receive limited support from the township. We are dispatched to approximately 100 responses per year including fires, motor vehicle accidents, assists to other departments, natural disasters, and even to pump out flooded basements, see OUR RUNS. We are dispatched through Luzerne County 911 as Station 251 as of January 2005.
We run two apparatus from our headquarters located at 170 North Main Street. We have one Spartan/Ferrera pumper (251 Engine), and one 75' Spartan/LTI Quint (251 Quint). See APPARATUS. We are also a member of the Back Mountain Fireman's Association.
The fire department has a Ladies Auxiliary.
Our EMS & vehicle rescue calls are handled for the entire township by the Kingston Township Ambulance & Rescue Association (KTAA).
